About the Company/Team

About Us: We’re an early-stage, Harvard- and Stanford-affiliated startup building the future of custom-fit, 3D-printed protective sports gear. Using a mobile head and body scanning app, we’re developing innovative gear that improves safety, comfort, and performance for athletes—starting with high-impact sports like rugby, football, and lacrosse. Our team has previously launched a successful medical device venture and is now focused on applying cutting-edge design and additive manufacturing to sports safety with measurable public health impact.

About the Role

What You’ll Do: • Design a digital prototype of custom-fit sports protective gear using CAD and 3D printing principles • Collaborate with the founding team to develop impact-absorbing structures (e.g., lattices, flexible geometries) • Integrate scanned anatomical data into a customizable and manufacturable model • Ensure the design aligns with relevant sports safety standards and ergonomics • Contribute to virtual reviews, iterate on feedback, and assist with print testing

Ideal Candidate: • Current undergrad or grad student in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Biomedical Engineering, or related field • Skilled in Fusion 360 (strongly preferred) or equivalent CAD software • Interest in sports tech, wearable design, or injury prevention • Experience with 3D printing or design for additive manufacturing (DfAM) is a strong plus • Curious, self-motivated, and eager to work in a fast-paced startup environment What You’ll Gain: • A real-world portfolio project with high visibility and impact • Hands-on experience in human-centered product design and advanced manufacturing • Mentorship from experienced founders and design professionals • Potential for future paid opportunity or ongoing team role • Letter of recommendation and support for course credit (if applicable) How to Apply: Send the following to cherised@mit.edu with the subject line: Product Design Intern Application – [Your Name] • A brief intro (1–2 paragraphs on who you are and why you're interested) • Resume or LinkedIn profile • Portfolio or examples of CAD/design work (PDF or link)
