About the Company/Team

CodeSchool in a Box is a nonprofit reimagining how programming is taught to address global inequities in tech education. The first stages of learning to code are where most learners drop out—and these drop-off rates are even higher for underrepresented demographics and populations with limited internet access. Over the past 6 years, we’ve built a low-tech, research-based solution founded on a simple idea: learners should first understand code before they’re expected to write it. Though intuitive, this is the opposite of how programming is usually taught. To support this pedagogy, we’ve created open content, tooling, and guides that make it easy to generate, package, and deliver programming curricula that run offline and on mobile. Our method is already in use at MIT Emerging Talent, a developer apprenticeship in Nairobi, nonprofit code schools in Belgium and Greece, and our own fully-funded pilot in Cairo.

About the Role

We’re looking for a business-minded cofounder to join our team and help scale our impact. Your main focus will be helping us develop a mixed funding model that blends donations and earned income. You’ll help us shape our value proposition, test revenue models, and define a roadmap toward financial sustainability and scale. We’ve had early success with philanthropy, securing funding for a pilot course in Cairo and an upcoming summer program. Now we want to explore opportunities for sustainable revenue through paid services and products in the computing education space—enabling us to expand our reach, support grassroots organizations’ curriculum development, and keep our core resources freely available.

This is a unique opportunity to cofound a mission-driven org with proven traction—and help scale a global model for inclusive, AI-aware programming education. You’ll work closely with the founding educators/researchers to chart the path from social impact prototype to scalable product and strategy.
