AshGen strives to turn one of the energy industry's biggest liabilities into a domestic supply chain opportunity. Coal fly ash, a byproduct generated by power plants, sits in waste ponds and landfills as an environmental headache for utilities. But it's also quietly rich in critical metals like gallium and lanthanides, and packed with aluminosilicate structures ideal for high-value materials like cement additives, geopolymers, and zeolites. AshGen is building the process to unlock that value. We’ll partner directly with utilities as a fly ash offtaker, solving their disposal problem while feeding an optimized, best-in-class process that transforms waste into low-carbon, commercially valuable products. The domestic critical metals gap is real, the waste stream is massive, and the chemistry is proven. AshGen is looking for the right person to help build this.

About the Role

AshGen is seeking a Technical Co-Founder ready to turn industrial waste into a sustainable future. You’ll have full autonomy to design our core tech from scratch and the seat at the table to define exactly where this company goes next. The ideal candidate is an engineer, likely with a background in chemical engineering, metallurgy, or mineral processing, who is energized by hard, unsolved process problems. They have experience in engineering processes and are eager to apply that knowledge to something they're building from scratch. The right person is a builder. They're comfortable with ambiguity, eager to get their hands dirty in the lab, and motivated by the idea of owning the technical direction of a company from day one. Most importantly, they approach engineering with a continuous improvement mindset. A working process is never a finished one, always seeking to make it faster, cleaner, cheaper, and more efficient. What they'll do: - Design and iterate on the core process for extracting critical metals and producing high value materials from coal fly ash - Evaluate and select best-in-class methods for each stage of the pipeline - Build and test at lab and pilot scale, then support the development toward commercial operations - Help shape the company's technical strategy and long-term vision
