MHI is building a proprietary chromatography platform to purify rare earth elements domestically, creating high-purity magnet-ready rare earth oxides and metals at low cost without using hazardous solvents. MHI was founded by MIT alumni, is venture-backed, and located in Long Beach, CA.

About the Role

Our growing team is looking for a Lead Chemist to steer our fundamental research & development efforts in the area of selective ligand development. You will have substantial independence and your own research budget while working closely with process engineers and business development leads to translate exciting but practical chemistries from conception to real industrial practice rapidly. You will also work on government grants and lead research-related procurement and hiring.

Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related engineering field + 5 years experience in research OR a PhD in chemistry or related engineering field. - An instinct for the scales and costs of goods and processes. - An ability to work with people from diverse technical and non-technical backgrounds, learn fast, and take risks. - A strong interest in building things, reindustrialization, core manufacturing, and translation to practice. - A desire to own and be responsible for something.
