The objective of this class is to help novice makers build confidence in their ability to create physical prototypes with a variety of making skills, and prototyping tools and processes. Students will also be briefly  introduced   to   the   rich resources on campus,  including  makerspaces,	additional classes and seasoned makers and product development and manufacturing experts. These resources can support them in their journey to become expert makers if they so choose. Success  means   students will know what tools are at their disposal for their next making project.

This subject is the entry-point for any MIT Sloan MBA student excited to learn more about entrepreneurship and engage with the  E&I  Track during their time at  Sloan. E&I  students are typically interested in: founding a company, joining a start-up venture, evaluating start-up ventures, becoming a corporate entrepreneur within a larger organization, or simply wanting to learn more about entrepreneurship.  

The subject has three learning objectives: 

1) MIT Entrepreneurial Ecosystem: Introduces you to the broader MIT ecosystem and provides an overview of the abundant opportunities to collaborate across campus and gain help with your own ventures.

2) Entrepreneurial Skills: Introduces you to how to gain the knowledge and tactical skills needed in entrepreneurship, which will be invaluable whether you start, join, or evaluate a startup venture.

3) Your Entrepreneurial  Journey: Provides an overview of the various ways to found, grow, and accelerate a venture during your time at MIT and beyond.

Entrepreneurship & Innovation Proseminar

Provides an integrated strategy framework for innovation-based entrepreneurs. Students examine the core strategic choices facing start-up innovators, and discuss a synthetic framework for the development, implementation and scaling of entrepreneurial strategy in dynamic environments over time. Identifies the types of choices that entrepreneurs must make to take advantage of a novel opportunity, and studies the logic of particular strategic commitments and positions that allow entrepreneurs to establish competitive advantage. Restricted to MIT Executive MBA and Sloan Fellows students.

Entrepreneurial Strategy (EMBA and Sloan Fellows only)

Students in teams accepted to the MITdesignX accelerator begin work on their ventures in this intense two-week bootcamp. Participants identify the needs and problems that demonstrate the demand for their innovative technology, policy, products, and/or services. They research and investigate various markets and stakeholders pertinent to their ventures, and begin to test their ideas and thesis in real-world interviews and interactions. Subject presented in workshop format, giving teams the chance to jump-start their ventures together with a cohort of people working on ideas that span the realm of design, planning real estate, and the human environment. Registration limited to students accepted to the MITdesignX accelerator in the fall.

DesignX Entrepreneurship

Examines opportunities and problems for entrepreneurs globally, including Europe, Latin America, and Asia. Covers linkages between the business environment, the institutional framework, and new venture creation. Special focus on blockchain technology.  In addition to discussing a range of global entrepreneurial situations, student groups pick one particular cluster on which to focus and to understand what further development would entail. Classroom interactions based primarily on case studies.
