Introduction

Imagine a world where anyone, anywhere can change their livelihood: doing what they love while earning higher pay. We are revolutionizing hands-on job training and hiring by unlocking mentorship and an undeniable credential for employers – proof of competence – certified by a trusted “sponsor”.


Problem

There are over 85 million workers in occupations that average under $40,000 per year. This barely covers the national average “living wage” (per MIT) for a household with no children, and falls ~50% short for households with 1+ children.  

Workers face obstacles to upskilling and getting out of their “bad jobs”: they have limited awareness, time & money and connections (no mentorship, support or references).  

We’re also solving the problem for employers who face massive labor shortages in roles such as teaching, manufacturing, and green jobs.


Opportunity

Badge leverages an insight that we hope is undeniable - if you can do the work, then you should get hired. We plan to create a platform that matches “sponsors'' with jobseekers to verify their competence (and character), and then matches employer demand to labor supply vetted by these trusted sponsors.  

Sponsors (experienced professionals) provide (1) support, which is critical to the persistence and success of career changers (trainees), and (2) a differentiated credential, which is enabled by vouching for the trainee’s competency. The sponsor can assess the trainee through in-person and video observation of their to their trainees.
