Introduction

Automated stormwater pipe inspection robot that helps municipalities detect cracks, leaks, and blockages before they cause flooding or infrastructure damage.

Problem

Municipal stormwater pipes require regular inspection and maintenance to meet MS4 compliance mandates, but current methods are manual, labor-intensive, and slow. A single inspection requires multiple crew members, significant traffic control setup, and produces inconsistent results. Backlogs build quickly after storm events, and undetected pipe defects lead to costly failures and flood liability

Opportunity

A low-cost robotic spool-and-camera system that a single crew member can stage and leave unattended, autonomously advancing through up to 100ft of pipe to capture inspection footage. Computer vision software then automatically detects cracks and leaks with high accuracy, generating compliance-ready reports. Sold as hardware near cost with a recurring software subscription, the system targets municipal DPW departments and delivers over $10K per year in labor savings per unit
