Build Better
when I was living in California I saw an elderly couple hire a contractor who took advantage of them. The contractor would quote exorbitant prices for every tiny thing he did on the job site. By the end of the project they had gone 2.5 times above the initially agreed upon price, the contractor had also overstayed and was barely showing up, so the homeowners (who were both in their mid 70s) had to start getting up ladders to finish up the contractors work. They were both extremely frustrated by this.
I then began to think about how widespread this problem had become and how technology could be used to solve it. Hence my idea for a venture.
The two biggest problems facing home renovators in the US are:
1. Managing home renovation costs once the renovation project has begun,
2. Finding reliable contractors in their vicinity.
Home renovation projects tend to go over budget and over the alotted time schedule and this can cause extreme frustration.
We would want to solve this problem for single family home owners in the US who want to renovate and refurbish their homes for a number of reasons; they want to repair their homes, they want to put their homes on the market and need to get things ready, they want to try something new, etc.
By creating a user generated design application. This application would enable single family home owners to scan the rooms they want to renovate using their phones, they would then get a virtual design model from the scan which they can edit with the latest materials and interior design innovation and items. The app would then connect them to a contractor in their vicinity who has been vetted who can get the job done exactly as specified in their virtual model. It would be like an uber for the construction process, with the riders being home owners and the drivers being the contractors.
