Idea in Design

Introduction

This research project introduces a tool for scenario testing that aims to ignite engaging discussions and explore diverse design possibilities within a specific location while considering the collective desires and aspirations of the community.

CityAI empowers diverse stakeholders to envision a shared urban future with AI-powered technologies. We address local problems with contextual data by communicating speculative design alternatives to different community members. Promoting inclusive, sustainable, and human-centered cities.

Problem

  • Problem: Lack of consensus tool for data-driven urban planning and design processes.
  • Audience: City governments and developers.
  • Solution: A consensus tool that helps city governments and developers make (better) data-driven decisions, consider broader impacts, and build consensus.

Opportunity

LLMs (ChatGPT) for keyword extraction from voice conversations. Diffused Models such as Stable Diffusion for generating speculative designs from the voice conversation input. The output is collaborative urban planning, envisioning future scenarios, and informing data-based decisions.

  1. Key Word Extraction: CityAI uses chatGPT to extract keywords or phrases from conversations. This can help in summarizing discussions and identifying important topics that are being discussed in the context of urban planning.
  2. Stable Diffusion Model Integration: The tool incorporates the Stable Diffusion model. This likely helps in generating speculative visual feedback, possibly in the form of images or simulations, which can aid in envisioning potential future scenarios for the city.
  3. Enhanced Conversation: By utilizing chatGPT, CityAI can enhance conversations by providing relevant information, answering questions, and offering insights. It acts as a virtual assistant to support the planning process.
  4. Envisioning the Future: The tool assists city planners and stakeholders in visualizing potential outcomes and impacts of their decisions. This can be crucial for making informed choices that align with the city's long-term goals and the community's needs.
  5. Speculative Visual Feedback: By integrating the Stable Diffusion model, CityAI can create visual representations of future scenarios. These visuals can be powerful tools for communicating ideas and concepts to a wider audience, including community members.
  6. Community Engagement: Involving community members in the planning process is vital, and CityAI seems to facilitate this by providing a platform for discussions and visual feedback. This can foster transparency and inclusivity in urban planning.
  7. Data-Driven Decision Making: ChatGPT can assist in analyzing data and providing data-driven insights, helping city planners and stakeholders make decisions based on evidence and trends.
