Problem
Head injuries are the leading cause of severe injury in accidents, yet many people still choose not to wear helmets despite their proven effectiveness. According to the CDC, helmets reduce the risk of head injury by 69%, yet helmet usage remains low due to discomfort and inconvenience.
Current helmets are not designed for everyday use and fail to meet the needs of potential users: a. Helmets are bulky, lack ventilation, and are hard to store; b. Helmets are heavy and difficult for long-term wear; c. Helmet designs are primarily based on Caucasian male models, making them a poor fit for many others. d. They obstruct peripheral vision and increase the risk of accidents.
While many people avoid wearing helmets for these reasons, the issue is more critical for some vulnerable groups: older adults, who are at high risk of falls and brain injuries; mobility-impaired individuals, who need lightweight, wearable protection; and urban commuters, who require comfortable helmets suited for everyday use.
