Goalpost

Let's change the game together.

Idea in Sports

Introduction

Goalpost is a platform connecting athletes and local businesses in order to form NIL agreements which benefit both the athlete and the business.

Problem

40% of college students work part time jobs, many of them athletes. Working these jobs cuts into time they could otherwise be spending studying or practicing. This time commitment to their work allows others who do not work to get ahead, jeopardizing the success of these student athletes in both academics and sports. If athletes could monetize their status as an athlete, they would be able to free themselves from their work, allowing them a more feasible route to success. However, no platform to facilitate this exists yet.

At the same time, 65% of small businesses fail within 10 years. They run out of money or simply are not profitable, so owners give up. However, many of these could be saved if they received enough public exposure and endorsement, but there is no simple mechanism for them to achieve this.

Opportunity

We are building a platform which connects student athletes with local small and medium enterprises. This allows local businesses to advertise and receive endorsements from local celebrities, engaging with their communities and strengthening the bond between their business and potential customers. Athletes benefit because they can work fewer hours at their job, spend more time studying, and gain business experience. It motivates student athletes to succeed and helps to free them from their financial burdens.

Our platform allows athletes and businesses to search for counterparts to form name, image, and likeness agreements with. Once a student and business find each other, we facilitate the formalization of the deal, allowing the business to pay the athlete, while clarifying what the athlete should say in a promotional video which they can post on their social media.

The local celebrity status of the athlete can introduce a customer base to a business, making it more likely to succeed. At the same time, the athlete benefits by having a new source of revenue based on what their interests are.
