HER Heard

Highly engaging platform for shared decision making for the women’s health journey

Idea in Health Care

Introduction

HER Heard is a digital health solution and community of support for women's health, empowerment, and respect and to promote a future of data-driven personalized care for women.

Problem

Until 1993 women were excluded from clinical trials and 80% of drugs withdrawn are toxic in women. This lack of data and poor care cause distrust in women who then go online instead, getting misinformation. Further, pelvic health, menopause, and midlife women's health have stigma and lack of support, leading to isolation. All this causes poor mental health, negative clinical outcomes, and adverse effects on work, relationships, and low quality of life. Getting the wrong medication, treatment, or surgery can result in chronic pain, disability, avoidable healthcare costs, and loss of work. In fact, 1 in 5 women at midlife is at risk of leaving work from poor health. This affects 30% of the U.S. workforce and costs the economy over $42 billion.

Opportunity

We are building a digital health solution for women 1) to self assess, 2) to learn via a combination of LLM chat expert system, community, and library of resources, then 3) optimize care via matched referrals. We work with insurance companies, employers, and clinical groups to improve access to just-in-time, appropriate care for the best outcomes for the woman, centering her preferences and values. In the future, outputs from the app also can guide clinicians, payers, and researchers (last is an opt-in only if women choose). Together, this starts to address the issue of missing data in the health system with what is called "patient reported outcomes" and patient-driven data so women can enjoy good health and thrive.
