Lub Dub Labs

“Your heartbeat. Your voice. Your future.”

Idea in Health Care

Introduction

Lub Dub Labs is developing SunoDil, a voice-based screening platform that uses explainable machine learning to detect early signs of heart disease from mobile phone recordings. Our solution is designed for scalability in low-resource settings, where access to diagnostic tools is limited. By enabling early detection and connecting individuals to timely care, we aim to prevent avoidable deaths and transform how healthcare is delivered in underserved communities. While we are starting with cardiovascular disease, our technology is adaptable to other conditions detectable through voice. At Lub Dub Labs, we believe that together, we can make healthcare a right—not a privilege.

Problem

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in India, responsible for 26% of all deaths. Globally, it claims over 18 million lives annually, most of them in low- and middle-income countries. Early-stage heart disease often goes undetected, especially in rural and semi-urban India, where over 600 million people lack access to reliable diagnostic tools. Traditional screening methods like ECGs and echocardiograms are costly, hospital-dependent, and require specialists, making them inaccessible to large swaths of the population. Fear, high costs, long travel distances, and a shortage of healthcare providers delay or prevent diagnosis altogether. Every missed or delayed diagnosis results in avoidable hospitalizations, lifelong disability, and premature deaths. There is an urgent need for a low-cost, scalable, and non-invasive solution to bring early screening to the doorstep, before it’s too late.

Opportunity

Emerging research shows that subtle voice characteristics can serve as powerful, non-invasive biomarkers for disease. An AI-based study found that patients with high vocal biomarker scores had a 2.6x greater risk of major cardiac events, while another showed ~80% accuracy in detecting hypertension from voice samples. These findings validate SunoDil’s core premise: that just 30 seconds of speech can help detect cardiovascular risk early.

SunoDil is a voice-based screening platform that uses explainable machine learning to analyze speech and detect early signs of heart disease, scalable across languages, accents, and devices. Leveraging over 90% mobile phone penetration in India and widespread global smartphone adoption, our tool enables affordable, accessible, and non-invasive screening in communities that lack diagnostic infrastructure.

Globally, over 18 million people die from cardiovascular disease each year, and billions more remain at risk due to undiagnosed hypertension and other silent conditions. In many low- and middle-income countries, a shortage of healthcare providers, diagnostic tools, and follow-up care leads to preventable hospitalizations and deaths.

While our initial focus is on cardiovascular health, the core technology is adaptable to other conditions detectable through vocal biomarkers, such as chronic respiratory disease, depression, Parkinson’s disease, and cognitive decline. By building a scalable platform for voice-based screening, SunoDil aims to transform preventive healthcare, reduce system burden, and make early detection truly universal.

Together, we can make healthcare a right—not a privilege.
