Circular Plastics, Zero Carbon
At MacroCycle, we revive end-of-life plastics. We want to protect our world through our circular, sustainable, zero-carbon upcycling process.
With the globe’s leading experts in chemistry and world-class MIT engineers on our team, we take plastic and polyester waste to produce virgin-grade mPET (MacroCycle-PET) resins, specially crafted to fit your needs and products.
About 8 million tons of plastic per year leaks into rivers and oceans. Production of plastics released >850 million tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere in 2019, representing now roughly 4.5% of the global CO2 output. Current recycling solutions either produce low-quality recycled plastic that ends up in landfills or oceans, or they require more energy than fossil-based plastic production. With these challenges, consumer brands in need of recycled packaging for sustainability goals and regulatory requirements are struggling to find recycled plastic that can meet their needs.
Our proprietary process based on the synthesis of cyclic macromolecules (macrocycles) enables us to produce virgin-grade recycled PET from plastic waste at 80% lower energy use than traditional processes. The remaining portion can be powered through renewable energy to produce it with zero carbon emissions. Our resulting mPET (MacroCycle-PET) resin meets the sustainability goals of major consumer goods brands, including meeting PCR regulations, lowering Scope 3 emissions, and eliminating ocean-bound plastics.
