Introduction

We are developing a personal safety companion app designed to help women feel safer when walking alone or traveling through areas where they might feel uncomfortable. Instead of calling a friend or relative, users can activate an AI companion within the app.

This AI companion will:

  • Continuously monitor the user’s location, motion, and activity in real time.
  • Provide live interaction — the user can talk to it like they would to a trusted friend, helping reduce feelings of fear or isolation.
  • Trigger an emergency response automatically: if danger is detected (e.g., sudden stops, unusual movement, loss of signal, or the user calling for help), the app immediately contacts 112/911 and sends critical information such as the user’s exact location, route, and status.

Additionally, it can alert trusted contacts or share a live feed until the user is safe.

The goal is to give users peace of mind by blending companionship, proactive monitoring, and instant escalation if something goes wrong.

Problem

There is no reliable, always-available, intelligent companion that provides both emotional reassurance and automatic safety escalation when needed.

Many women (and others) feel unsafe when walking alone at night, commuting through isolated areas, or using unfamiliar routes. In these situations, people often call friends or family just to feel less alone and to have someone “watch over them.”

But this creates several issues:

  • Friends/family aren’t always available to stay on the phone.
  • Calls don’t provide real monitoring. If something happens suddenly, the friend may not know where the person is or how to act quickly.
  • Emergency response delays. By the time help is called, valuable minutes may be lost.
  • Constant anxiety. The feeling of being unsafe limits independence and freedom of movement.

Opportunity

Our startup provides a mobile application that acts as a smart companion for personal safety. When someone feels unsafe, they can activate the app and be connected with an AI companion that stays with them throughout the journey. The companion listens and responds in real time, creating the same sense of comfort as calling a trusted friend.

At the same time, the app continuously monitors the user’s activity and location. If unusual patterns are detected or if the user calls for help, the app immediately gathers and shares critical information such as exact location, route, and recent activity. This information is sent either to trusted contacts or directly to emergency services, ensuring that help can be dispatched quickly and accurately.

By combining emotional support with intelligent monitoring and fast escalation, the app reduces fear, increases confidence, and provides a reliable safety net in moments when people feel most vulnerable.
