SnapKarbon

Help the small businesses to embark their net zero journey

Idea in Sustainability

Introduction

Problem

To address the issue of climate change, it is crucial to gain a more thorough understanding of the sources of emissions. Over one-third (34%) of the world's largest companies are now committed to Net Zero and publish their emissions annually. However, an accessible, cost-effective option for measuring small companies' carbon emissions is currently unavailable. Small businesses, especially those that supply products and services to large businesses, will be significantly impacted without such an option. Even though these small businesses are currently not in the scope of the regulation, they are facing increased pressure from large companies, and in the extreme case, it causes them to lose their customers. We want these small businesses to be prepared better, helping them embark on their net zero journeys through a software platform that extracts the relevant information from existing data at these businesses.

Opportunity

SnapKarbon aims to provide an affordable approach for small to medium businesses to calculate their carbon emission efficiently and directly from their existing data. Specifically, SnapKarbon first measures and tracks carbon emissions from customers' data regarding site utility consumption, transportation, and tenant utility consumption. We intend to do this by smartly recognizing and aggregating information available across invoices, expense reports, supplier information, etc. We will use our proprietary platform to estimate where there are gaps in data, by comparing the business and their products with other small businesses that have similar characteristics. In addition, SnapKarbon highlights the top sectors which produce the most carbon emission in the customer's value chain to help benchmark and ultimately unlock their low-carbon potential.
